Rocky Valley Labyrinth Necklace
Rocky Valley Labyrinth Necklace
Though often used synonymously with the word “maze,” a labyrinth is a structure with only one dedicated path to its center and no branching pathways. Its shape is often considered a metaphor for prayer or enlightened thinking, and walking or tracing a labyrinth has long been considered to be meditative or healing to the spirit.
This labyrinth jewelry design is modeled after the Rocky Valley Labyrinth, which is found as a rock carving in Rocky Valley, north Cornwall, England - an area associated with the birth of King Arthur and an historic seat of Celtic mythology as well as Arthurian/Grail lore.
Though not specifically a Norse design, the Rocky Valley Labyrinth is thought by some historians to be old enough to have been present during the Viking Era; it is possible that Norse travelers could have seen the design in the British Isles, if it did in fact exist as a carving at that time in history.
